If Velvet Goldmine was 7/8ths less gay and had starred the antithesis of the Stuck On You conjoined twins you’d end up with something a lot like Brothers of the Head, the faux rockumentary co-directed with great brio by Keith Fulton and Louis Pepe, the solders of fortune who were the only people to get anything out of Terry Gilliam’s massively failed attempt at a Man Who Killed Don Quixote film, Lost in La Mancha. The duo don’t hit as high a mark as thet did with La Mancha, but it’s pretty safe to say that anything they output is gonna interesting enough to watch. The interesting here are the ups and mostly downs of a set of Siamese twins sold into show business by their widowed father. The Howe twins, played by real life twins Harry and Luke Treadaway, at first don’t take too kindly to the idea of fronting a band called Bang Bang (supposedly the original name of the Arctic Monkeys), but as the days go by, the two slide right in to their new roles as rock icons/side show freaks. As their popularity rises, so do the problems, and since the two are attached to each other, you can probably figure out some of these problems on yer own. OK, you want a hint? What happens when one finds a mate, and the other doesn’t? You get the picture, and it’s a pretty one, with plenty a great tunes to go along with it. Even Ms Mod agrees, and she’s never wrong, cept she doesn’t dig on the Keane too much, but we’ll eggscuse her, cause he mum does.
