Pet & Neck Sounds

Brian Wilson
Bergen PAC, in NJ!!!
Rocktober 27th

Beach Boy wunderkind Brian Wilson has certainly been around, but in between all his surf’s ups and surf’s downs of playing in a sandbox and helping to give birth to Carnie Wilson, he’s found the time to dance, dance, dance and have much fun, fun, fun, while providing the rest of us with enuff good vibrations to last 282318129 lifetimes. Gawd only knows where we’d be without him and his precious falsetto voice that never hits a false note so wouldn’t it be more like a truesetto voice? Wouldn’t that be nice? Hactually what would be really nice would be being a member of his current quite complimentary backing band, aptly named the Brian Wilson Band. Their job is so hugo AND so boss. Theys get to pretend that they’re in the Beach Boys and jam out with the last standing Wilson brother whenever he feels like touring

We caught the B Man and his band juss over the river last night, and let we tell you, you should cross 382129903123 rivers if you have to, juss to see and hear the man who, as one concertgoer put it, ‘does that dance people in plus-size tracksuits do when they win the lottery‘. Don’t buy into that Mike Love touring as the Beach Boys bullsheet cause Brian Wilson IS the Beach Boys (like when we saw Axl as GnR w/o the rest of GnR). All the parts that Love normally sangs, Wilson sings em butter (although he can’t sing every bit, since it’s impossible for him to harmonize with himself) + there’s no chance of John Stamos or ‘Kokomo’ rearing thems ugly heads!!

As the show began, Brian told us that they were going to rock out, but maybe not as much as the Rolling Stones do, which prompted a teen boy/girl (we couldn’t tell) in front of us to scream, ‘You’re better than them!‘. We’ve seen the Stones, on the Voodoo Lounge Lizards tour, and have to agree with the boy/girl. 40 songs, with two takes of ‘Monster Mash’ was all the proof we needed…

SET 1
Monster Mash / Do it Again / Dance, Dance, Dance / Girl Don’t Tell Me / Then I Kissed Her / In My Room / Salt Lake City / Custom Machine / Soul Searchin’ / Desert Drive / Please Let Me Wonder / Don’t Worry Baby / I Get Around / Sail On Sailor / Heroes and Villains / Roll Around Heaven / California Girls

SET 2
Monster Mash, #2 / Little Girl I Once Knew / Your Imagination / All Summer Long / Add Some Music / Shut Down / Little Deuce Coupe / Do You Wanna Dance / Sloop John B / Wouldn’t it be Nice / God Only Knows / Midnight’s Another Day / Lucky Old Sun / I’m Going Home / Southern California/Good Vibrations

ENCORE
Surfer Girl / Johnny B Goode / Help Me Rhonda / Barbara Ann / Surfin USA / Fun, Fun, Fun

ENCORE TO THE ENCORE
Love And Mercy

what an appetizer for Thurs/Fri!

Locker Hurt So Good

Davy Jones
BB King’s
Rocktober 2nd

While former Monkee/forever a Monkee Davy Jones may not have been a leading candidate on our muss see before they die/we die list (Brian Wilson’s up next), it certainly wasn’t a losing proposition taking a ride with him before he pulls into Clarksville, on the last train! After we made the daring decision to see the pint-sized ‘#1 Teen Idol of All Time’, we soon realized that a whopping majority of the Monkees hits were hactually sung by Micky Dolenz (no wonder then that he ended up with a wicked hot wife, and spawned an even wickeder hotttt duaghter). No worries, as Davy sang all dem s’wonderful hits + sum solo shazz, and even ‘Consider Yourself’ from his Oliver! stage days, and for that 2 lovely hours, stretched a lil thin with awful…ly amazing self-deprecating humor and cornball jokes (Jewish girls only want men with circumcised penises cause they love things that are half-off!!!), we, along with all the 60 year old liz-adies, were true believers, daydream or nightdreamszzz!!!

boo-nus: bestest Davy Jones sung Moonkees tune mt EVERest and vesuvius, ‘Valleri‘ [empee3]

Moby Sour Grapes

Moby
9:30 Club – September 18th
& Irving Plaza – September 21st

Moby is so 1995, and he is also so 1999. Never forget that. He hasn’t. We haven’t. You may have. Why did you give up on old baldie after you loved him so much? Remember when he had a lame feud with Eminem that not even Triumph The Insult Dog could resolve? Well Eminem is kinda nothing now, while Melville’s great-great-great-grandnephew keeps plugging away, and chipping in such hotness that reeks of upyo and 2002, 2005 and 2008. Specific years, yes, but timeless lessthenone. 2009 brings Wait For Me, and while it hasn’t eggzactly knocked our socks off right outta the gate, neither did 2008 when we gave it our first sits and spins, and now 2008 may be our mos flavorites of his’ses’s. We try to make everyday 1989! You should to! Glad we never did give up on him, even after he basically borded us to def with his laptop back in April, cause with a full band, soul sistah singer and all, he totes brought back the RockdeBody like it was 2005 to DC’s 9:30 Club last Friday (we hadn’t been there since the late 90s) and to Irving Platz last noche. The DC show was a tad longer and a tad more butter, and we were less under any influence for that one so there! What, you stop reading this sentences ago? We’ll if yer still here and yer still not convinced of Moby’s greatness try thinking of a Bourne movie ending without thim. Are you Bourne again yet?

who the fork were Moby Grape anywayz?
