Love of Tunnel

they say that Brooklyn’s half mile long Atlantic Avenue Tunnel is officially the world’s oldest subway tunnel, even though it served trains, and not subway cars

regardless, it was built in 1844, so it’s old as fork, was closed off in 1861, and was basically left abandoned for ages.  that is until 1981, when a fella named Bob Diamond re-discovered it, re-opened access to it, and has led tours of it ever since.  we joined in on one them tours this past Sunday, and while the view from below isn’t the most penis-blowing thing one has ever seen (was kinda hoping for a Ghostbusters 2 moment), the history and tales that Bob D spins are!!

plus how often does one get to explore NYC’s underground without the fear of rats or The Baseball Furies giving you a major beat down?
